The garage and breezeway on the left are standard stick-built 2x6 construction. The main mass of the house and the library (library to the right) are all post and beam and the exterior walls will be infilled with strawbales. Though they'll be stacked in a running bond* (like bricks), the strawbales in our structure will not bear any vertical load (that's picked up by the frame of the house). They'll be pegged with bamboo stakes down through the top to assist with lateral stabilization. (i.e. not fall over sideways)Running bond.
